What is UX Design? This is a question I get asked often and never have a clear answer for. UX Design is diverse. It’s fun and collaborative. I quickly discovered that my favorite part of the field is creating new connections and working with a team. Teamwork is a passion of mine and the best part is that I get to design with my best friends everyday. Opening my mind to new possibilities and getting involved on campus alters my perspective for every design. Along with the help and support of my friends and peers
Design as a concept is really challenging for me. At first I didn’t know if this major was right for me. I had never taken in art class in my life nor had any experiences with digital wireframe tools. Because of this I soon understood what failure was and how I could apply it to my work moving forward. Failure is the driving factor for success. Without failure I wouldn’t have the motivation to improve upon my design skills such as sketching, wireframing, and coding. I’ve learned to take ownership and be proud of the way I design. Every contribution is one step closer to a solution and one day I hope to be a role model for those who also struggle with owning their work.
College has been a crazy ride of experiences and growth. Everything outside of UX plays a role in how I interpret my design philosophy. As I continue to grow my skills and UX vocabulary maybe that philosophy will become more clear. At the moment my goals and aspirations for design is to be selfless and create experiences that last. Design is diverse and experiences make up diversity. I never want to stop trying new things, there are so many things to try and new people to meet in the world. It’s a matter of who has the confidence to do it. Never sell yourself short.
