Purdue Everywhere

UX Design Studio – Spring 2020

Overview

What happens when uncertainty arises? This project challenged me and my team in many ways, it was a great way to cap off the semester. Not only did we have to create a solution centered around remote learning we had to learn and adapt to this new environment as well. In this documentation we tackled research, interviews, iteration, and group comradery. Our hard work led us to a final prototype circumferencing ideas around non-verbal cues and interactions within the classroom.

Goals

  1. Successfully use all stages of the design process to collectively ideate a solution centered around Purdue experiences and uncertain situations.
  2. Conduct teamwork over remote platforms such as Slack and Zoom to discuss, design, and document our design process and final deliverable.

User Group

Keeping in the mind the prompt given to us, we thought it would be most beneficial to center the user group around Purdue students. After extensive research and iteration our final user group is User Experience design students at Purdue university who need more engagement during remote classes/synchronous lectures with students and professors.

Final Prototype

Design Rationale

This project was very open-ended we could have gone in so many directions. We wanted to narrow synchronous classrooms and keeping students engaged. WebEx is a platform we use often at Purdue, with the added features we accomplished the goal of creating those non-verbal cues. It was also important for us to help both the student and the professor. If we were to continue user testing and researching it would be beneficial for us to do a competitive analysis on other synchronous lecture platforms such as, zoom, vimeo, and google hangout, to uncover more pain points. Furthermore we would have also liked to create a mockup from the point of view from the professor, since we envision them benefitting from this addition as well.

Individual Contributions

This project is unique in that my group and I had to conduct all of our work remotely. I took the initiative to create meetings and organize what each meeting would focus on. My teammates and I never felt stressed and divided up work equally. Everyone did their part and it shows in the success of our prototype. My other contributions included creating interview protocol, secondary research, conducting interviews, creating prototype, and documentation.
